Yadier Molina (41), a former great catcher who retired from the U.S. Major League Baseball (MLB) at the end of the 2022 season, returns to the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Associated Press reported on the 7th (Korean time), "Molina will serve as a special assistant to John Mozeliak, President of St. Louis Baseball Operations."
“We are excited to have Molina return to St. Louis,” said Mozeliak. “He will not only provide invaluable assistance in MLB, but he will also spend time with our minor league team in a new role.”
Molina wore a St. Louis uniform for 19 years, 해외스포츠중계 from when he entered the big league in 2004 until he retired after last season. He is the second longest-serving player in St. Louis, following Stan Musial, who played 22 seasons (1941-1963) in the club's history.
Molina was considered the best catcher in MLB during his active career. He was selected as an All-Star 10 times in his career, and won the Gold Glove Award as a catcher 9 times. His career records include a batting average of 0.277, 2,168 hits, 176 home runs, and 1,022 RBI in 2,224 website games.
While Molina was at home, St. Louis won the World Series twice (2006 and 2011).
Although he returned to St. Louis as a front-office player, Molina still harbors dreams of becoming a coach.
"Molina has emphasized that he wants to coach in the MLB long-term, so he will spend time with the team's coaching staff and learn more about the job," Mozeliak said.
